A pattern for beautiful leaves no matter the season. This can easily be made into a crochet leaf bookmark. And with spring around the corner it's going to make a great addition to any crochet flowers you may have planned. (US Terminology)

I had this lovely colored crochet thread that I stumbled upon walking through my local JoAnns, as one does in the harsh Buffalo winters. It had such a beautiful color combination I knew I couldn't leave without it. While it took me a while to figure out what to actually do with it (it was so pretty to me it almost felt like nothing I could possibly make would be deserving of it), eventually I realized the fall colors would look so nice on a leaf. So I sketched out the design in my little notebook as I went along and now it's being put up on the website.

I love this pattern becuase the leaves have a little twist to them making them look a little more real and natural instead of looking perfectly symmetrical. It's the perfect pattern for an addition to a crochet flower, a leaf bookmark, some cute crochet earrings (which I was prototyping at the time), or even decoration to add to clothing or blankets.

The only note I have before starting the pattern below is that you may want to add more chains. The bookmark pictured aboved had chain 40 for the shorter stem and chain 80 for the longer stem.

Perfect Crochet Leaf Pattern

Chain 29 (chain more to create a stem)

First Side:

Slip Stitch into the second chain from hook, single crochet (x2), half double crochet (x2), double crochet (x3), treble crochet (x3), double treble crochet (x3), triple treble crochet (x2), quadruple treble crochet (x2), quintuple treble crochet (x2), 1 quadruple treble crochet, 1 triple treble crochet, 1 double treble crochet, 1 treble crochet, 1 double crochet, 1 half double crochet, 1 single crochet

To switch sides:

To start the single crochet on the opposite side, work a slip stitch into the next chain and let your needle and the yarn go over the top of the 'stem'. (You could have your yarn go under the 'stem' to keep the slip stitch flatter on top). Turn the half-completed leaf so you can comfortably start the next side.

Second Side:

1 single crochet (into the same chain as the last single crochet done on the first side), 1 half double crochet, 1 double crochet, 1 treble crochet, 1 double treble crochet, 1 triple treble crochet, 1 quadruple treble crochet, quintuple treble crochet (x2), quadruple treble crochet (x2), triple treble crochet (x2), double treble crochet (x3), half double crochet (x2), single crochet (x2)

Cut your yarn, leaving a few inches to weave in the tail. I recommend weaving it into the back of the leaf following the stitches on the "first row" to help shape it.
